Rossendale Save the Children Strawberry Delight Day 2019

Forty volunteers from Rossendale branch of Save the Children made short work of preparing and delivering 660 plates of strawberry scones and sponge cake to shops, schools and businesses in the Valley, adding nearly £2,000 to the charity’s fundraising efforts for this year.

Branch Chairman Sheila Wild said: “Our Strawberry Delight Day has been operating for 25 years now, which means that we must have raised around £40,000 from this relatively simple idea”. Sheila continued “Although it might sound easy it does need good co-ordination and I’m really grateful to all the committee members and volunteers who help on the day.”

For the fourth year the main sponsor was Tony Winder of Antony & Patricia Hairdressing in Rawtenstall. Tony said “I’m holding my own fundraising events this year for the 50th anniversary of my business so it seemed natural to sponsor Strawberry Delight Day again. This year’s also the centenary of Save the Children so what better than to combine those two important celebrations?”

Mrs Wild added “As usual we had a sponsor for the cream we used, and useful help from our strawberry and scone suppliers. We’re also grateful for use of Rawtenstall Conservative Club as our base, and  we must give a big ‘thank you’ to all those people who bought the ‘Delights’. We hope everyone enjoyed them!”
