10th September 2014 was a special day to remember for volunteers and supporters from throughout the Northwest when they came together to celebrate the 50th Anniverary of the Save the Children Preston Branch.
H.R.H. The Princess Royal was guest of honour at the Save the Children Preston Branch 50th Anniversary celebration at the Gibbon Bridge Hotel, Chipping.
The lunch was attended by 124 volunteers and supporters from the North West region.
Preston Branch Secretary Frances Seth said, “We are delighted that H.R.H., President of Save the Children since 1970, came along to thank the volunteers for their hard work and commitment, and the supporters, without whom we would not be able to make a difference to the lives of children here in the UK and in more than 120 countries worldwide. Last year Save the Children helped 15.4 million children, the most ever in its history”.
Special thanks go to Mercedes Benz of Preston for sponsoring the event and Photographer Phil Garlington of Longridge, who kindly donated his time and the photographs to Save the Children.
The Preston fundraising Branch was initially set up to help children who were suffering during the Vietnam War.
The city of Preston also has a Save the Children Charity shop which is consistently one of the top revenue earning Save the Children shops in the UK. Several of its dedicated volunteers were also in attendance
Save the Children is constantly looking to welcome new volunteers to help with fund raising events.
(Apologies we did have lots of images of the event hosted on google drive but they have unfortunately been lost)
